The military council has conducted more than 30 airstrikes in the past two days as resistance forces have renewed their efforts to capture Tigyaing town in Sagaing Region, according to local news source.

The resistance forces have resumed their attack to capture Htigyaing since 19 August after their previous attempts in 2023 were unsuccessful, according to local sources.

A local woman from Tigyaing said, “Fighting began around 5 a.m. The airstrikes started around 3:45. It was dark and filled with smoke after the strikes. From Pauk Kone, I saw the smoke rising in the darkness. After the airstrikes, the smoke continued to billow as buildings burned.”

The military council’s jet fighters and Y-12 planes dropped 67 bombs on 20 August and over 100 bombs on 21 August, according to the Tigyaing Revolution (TR), which reports on the revolutionary news of Tigyaing.

There are four junta camps remaining for the resistance forces to capture in order to gain full control of Tigyaing town.

On 20 and 21 August, the junta’s airstrikes destroyed or damaged many houses and monastery in Kokekokone village, said local residents.

Likewise, the junta’s airstrikes in Nitar village hit and injured a child and a woman.

The resistance forces had informed the residents to relocate a week before the start of the renewed fighting to capture Tigyaing town began, said another local resident of Tigyaing.

“The resistance forces asked residents from Kokekokone, Te Taw, and Thakhutchaung villages to relocate, but they did not inform those in Kyetthunkhin to move,” the local resident said.

In response to the battle to capture Tigyaing town, the junta has conducted airstrikes on Kokekokone, Nitar, Nawarat, San Pya and Mya Taung villages. Clashes between the two armed forces are going on in the villages near the town, according to local residents.

Almost all residents of Tigyaing town have fled to Mya Taung, Maungkone and Ahleltaw villages on the other side of the town due to the battle to capture the town in 2023.
