Young woman abducted by the military council found dead in Yebyu

A 20-year-old woman who was abducted by the military council was found dead with gunshot wounds near a bridge in Wetchaung village in Yebyu Township of Tanintharyi Region at around 5 pm on 14 October, according to local residents.

The victim’s name is Ma Sandar Khaing. On 22 September, the military council’s column abducted eight locals including Ma Sandar Khaing from Khamaukchaung village in Yebyu Township.

Passersby found her in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds to her face.

Local residents said the military council released six of eight detainees. However, the military council continues to detain Ma Sandar Khaing and Ko Thar Gun.

It is still unknown exactly whether the victim was abducted and killed by the military council or was killed by an organization, local residents said.

The military released Ma Sandar Khaing in the first week of October. On 14 October, the plain-clothes gunmen again abducted her, some local residents said.

In late September, 29 civilians were killed in Tanintharyi Region. Culprits cannot be arrested in most of the cases, according to a statement by FE5 Tanintharyi, a research organization.
