Locals have fled to safer places as the military council army burned a house in Yesagyo Township in Magway Region, according to villagers.

At around 10 am on August 17th, the military set fire to the civilian houses in Ngatahmyaw village in Yaylaegyun region in Yesagyo Township.

“The military is burning the houses till the night. I saw big flames. Nobody dares to enter the village as the soldiers remain in the village,” a local from a nearby village.

As the military has been burning houses since around 10 am till night, the whole village may be burned to ashes. The villagers cannot extinguish the fire as they have to flee to safer places. The military fired heavy and light weapons with the use of excessive force.

“Tonight, it is raining. Mobile phone lines are poor. I myself have to flee. The IDPs also have to flee in the rain. I don’t get information about how many houses were burnt down,” a villager told the NMG at 10.30 pm on August 17th.

The NMG is unable to contact the villagers till the afternoon of August 18th to get the latest information.

The village has a population of 3,000 and over 500 households. Houses are built side by side.

Villagers worry that the fire may spread to the whole village as the village has mainly stored the crops.

The military council is conducting an offensive in Yesagyo, Myaing and Pauk Townships with the use of excessive force. The military is carrying out the frequent burning of the villages assuming that the revolutionary forces are present, locals.
