One man was killed and another injured when an unknown group of gunmen opened fire in Ahnin village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State, on the morning of 18 May.

The group of more than 20 gunmen entered the village that morning and fired shots at two men riding motorcycles named Moe Zaw Oo and Naing Adit, residents said.

“They are Karen PDF. The two men were on their way to work. The gunmen asked them to stop their motorcycle and shot at them. One of them was hit in the middle of the forehead. Another was hit in the leg as he ran away,” said a resident of Ahnin village.

In the incident, Moe Zaw Oo, 27, was killed on the spot, while Naing Adit escaped with a leg injury.
According to local residents, the gunmen left the village after about four artillery shots were fired from the direction of Ahnin police station, and the body and injured victim were taken to Ahnin hospital with the help of a social support group.

Residents claimed that the gunmen entered the village because artillery shots had been fired at a Karen-inhabited village in recent days.
