Two local women were reportedly killed on the spot in Theinni, Shan State, after an artillery shell hit and destroyed a house.

Locals reported that the shell hit the house in Konehteik village, where pickled pork is sold, at around 3pm on 1 November, killing the two women – mother and daughter.

“It’s true that the mother and daughter were killed by the artillery shelling yesterday (1 Nov.) evening,” said a resident of Theinni.

Theinni has been the scene of fierce fighting between the Myanmar army and the Three Brothers Alliance, comprising the Arakan Army (AA), the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), – since the start of Operation 1027, which was launched on the morning of 27 Nov., according to reports.

The two deceased, Par Saw (mother) and Nan Kham Lyan (daughter), were residents of Ward 3, which is near the Theinni-Kutkai toll gate. They were fatally hit by the artillery shell, for which none of the groups claimed responsibility, while they were having their meal at the back of the house, the residents said.

According to reports, three men and two women have so far been killed and two others injured in the fighting between the Three Brothers Alliance and the Myanmar army in Theinni Township.
