Two political prisoners in their 20s were sentenced to 24 years each in prison by the court in Pathein Prison in Ayeyarwady Region.
On the morning of September 28th, both Ko Kyaw Zin Latt from Kyaunggon in Ayeyarwaddy Region and Ko Zin Ko Ko from Einme Township were sentenced under Sections 122, 124, 19 (f) and Section 505 (a).
They are sentenced to 24 years in prison in total—20 years for Sections 122 and 124, two years for Section 19 (f) and two years for Section 505 (a).
In early August, the military council arrested Ko Zin Ko Ko and Ko Kyaw Zin Latt in Chaungtha of Pathein Township along with weapons, according to those close to lawyers.
“The military council unjustly arrested them for alleged link to the attack on junta soldiers in August, 2021,” the families told the media.
There are more than 300 political prisoners in Pathein prison—nearly 270 males and around 50 females.
Sentences have been handed down to more than 100 political prisoners by the military council’s special court, according to those close to the Prison Department.
