Two philanthropists from Htonebo Station in Padaung Township in Pyay District in western Bago Region were sentenced to 10 years each in prison by the Pyay Prison court under Section 505 (a) on November 11, according to their family members.

A 30-year-old local man said: “They were hiding as the military council issued a warrant for them under Section 505 (a) shortly after the coup. They got arrested when they returned to their homes for their health. They have nothing to do with violence. They are good people. Many people in Htonebo are indebted to them.”

The military council arrested U Nandar Gyi, 45 and Ko Zaw Min Lwin (aka) Khaing Zaw Min, 35 in March, 2022.

They actively participated in the social affairs in the region.

A town-elder from Htonebo said: “They were sentenced to 10 years each in prison under Section 505 (a). As sentences were handed down to them with a grudge, the good persons suffered losses.”

Both Ko Nandar Gyi and Ko Zaw Min Lwin (aka) Khaing Zaw Min have earned the public’s respect as they helped COVID-19 patients get oxygen, according to locals.

There are nearly 40 people who are awaiting trials in Padaung Township, according to the persons close to the officials.
