Military junta troops shot dead two civilians on two consecutive days in Salin Township in the Magway region, according to local sources.

On 18 and 19 June, junta troops reportedly shot dead a female street vendor and a man riding a motorcycle near Lay Taing Sin village in Salin Township.

“The woman was a street vendor. She was shot around 3am when she came out with a basket. They tied her to the car with a rope and drove away towards their position,” said a local.

The exact reason for the killing of the vendor is not yet known, while the motorcyclist was allegedly shot dead for not stopping his motorcycle, the local added.

In a similar incident, the junta troops shot the motorcyclist at around 10am on 19 June for allegedly failing to stop during their inspection.

On 17 June, the military junta began checking the use of virtual private network (VPN) applications on mobile phones in Salin Township, demanding 100,000 kyat for each VPN installed.

In the first week of June, about 70 residents were arrested in Salin Township during checks and for military service. About 40 of them were reportedly released.
