Two civilians were killed and two others seriously wounded in the military council’s airstrikes on Chat and Swantaung villages in Mindat Township of Chin State at around 11 am on June 3rd.

“The military bombed Chat and Suntaung villages with the use of two fighter jets. Heavy shells landed on the school and the church in Chat village. Two civilians near the school and the church were killed and two seriously wounded. Other people were also wounded,” Salai Yaw Mann, Spokesperson of the Chinland Defense Force (CDF)-Mindat says.

The military council carried out aerial surveillance on the villages before the airstrikes. This is a targeted attack on the civilians, according to the statement by the CDF-Mindat.

Salai Yaw Mann: “I strongly condemn the bombings on the schools and churches as there are no clashes between the two groups.”

Locals are taking shelter in the forests due to the bombings. Chat and Swantaung villages are located about 40 miles from Mindat Township.

A 14-year-old young male from Madat village was killed in the heavy shelling fired by the military council’s No.274 Light Infantry Battalion stationed in downtown Mindat on June 29th.
