Three people were killed and at least 10 civilians injured by the heavy shelling in the ongoing fighting in Arakan State.
Those killed in the fighting are a child and a pregnant woman from Kyauktaw Township and the injured child is from Buthidaung Township. At least 10 injured civilians are from Kyauktaw, Buthidaung and Minbya Townships.
The heavy shell fired by Kyauktaw-based No.9 Military Operation Command (MOC) at around 11 pm on September 25th landed on Nagayar village, killing U Kyaw Maung’s seven-year-old son Maung Ko Naing (aka) Maung Gyi.
“The heavy shell fired by Kyauktaw-based No.9 MOC landed on the roof of U Shwe Than Maung in Nagayar village at 11 pm while the children were taking shelter,” A Nagayar villager said.
At around 6:30 pm on September 23rd, the heavy shell fired by the military council landed on Theintaung (Muslim) village in Buthidaung Township. The military fired heavy shells without any clashes. The heavy shell seriously injured Maung Arman Phar Rude, 7. Later, he died in the hospital, the relative of the victim said.
On the same day, the junta soldiers fired heavy shells into Thabeiktaung village in south of Buthidaung Township in the morning and set fire to the houses in the evening. Two Muslim men from Thabeiktaung (north village) were injured.
On September 20th, a 31-year-old pregnant woman died of sudden cardiac arrest in Gaungtoke village in Kyauktaw Township in Arakan State after she heard the sound of a heavy shell fired by No.9 MOC.
On September 26th, the heavy shell fired by the military council’s vessel injured three civilians—a pregnant woman, a three-year—old child and a youth—in Khaunglaungchaung village in Minbya Township, a villager said.
Ma Ohmar San (aka) Ma Danni Chay, 23, with pregnancy got a wound to her left arm, Bu Maung, 13, a wound to his head and Ma Khaing Zan Chay, 3, a wound to her right hand, the villagers said.
On September 21st, the four family members were injured by a heavy shell in Nagayar village in Kyauktaw Township.
There have been frequent clashes between the Arakan Army (AA) and the military council army in Arakan State. Civilian casualties occur as the military council fires indiscriminate heavy shells into nearby villages whenever fighting takes place, civilians said.
