Three of the policemen stationed at Kan village police station in Gangaw Township, Magway Region, drowned after fleeing the police station, according to locals.
“They might have crossed the creek without knowing the nature of the stream at night. At that time, the defense forces were also clearing the area. Those who escaped from the station are still missing in the jungle,” said a local.
The bodies of the three drowned policemen were found and cremated on 30 November, the local added.
Pyae Phyo Kyaw, spokesman for the All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) Column 3, said relevant groups were examining the military equipment found with the drowned bodies.
He said four bodies were recovered near Yaeshinma village along with 1 Uzi, 1 G3, 1 Sting and 40 grenades, citing their ground troops.
The Myanmar Army soldiers and policemen from Kan village police station, who were sick and unable to walk, were left behind in the station. After they escaped on 26 November, their bodies were found three days later, he said.
As there could be more deaths from drowning, local defense groups and residents are continuing search efforts, he added.
