Three civilians were wounded by the heavy shells fired by the military council troops in a village in the west of Demawso Township in Karenni State, at around 2 pm on June 14th, wounding three civilians.

The injured are a 60-year-old woman, a 20-year-old man and a three-year-old child, a local says.

“Heavy shelling wounded three persons. One old woman got a wound to her leg. But I don’t know whether her legs are broken or not. Her leg was covered with plaster bandage. One man got a minor wound to his elbow joint and a child, minor wounds to his head and face. The heavy shell landed on a house when the people were inside the house and destroyed a motorcycle,” a local says.

One heavy shell landed on a house, one, on a rice barn and one between the house and the cattle farm.

There is no clash in the place on which the heavy shells landed. The IDPs are taking shelter in that village.

Khu Daniel, Spokesperson of the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) said: “Every country has their policies for military operations. Fighting should be between the members of two armed groups. However, the military council doesn’t distinguish between the enemy and the public. The military fires heavy weapons by regarding all targets as enemies. The military is using these heavy weapons as its strength as it has no strength. The military also uses even aircrafts in the fighting. It can be said that the military has failed to follow international policy.”

On June 10th, the heavy shell landed in Saungdular village-tract in the west of Demawso Township, killing a local man and wounding four civilians.

According to the data collected by the Kantarawaddy Times (KT) in June, the heavy shelling killed five civilians and wounded 15 others in Karenni State. One civilian was killed by the landmine while one other was shot dead by the military council troops.
