Over 10,000 locals have been displaced by a military column advancing along the Pakokku-Pauk road section in Magway Region, according to the Pauk Township Humanitarian and Disaster Management Department.

A column of approximately 120 soldiers from Pakokku-based Division 101, which departed on 28 May, arrived at Yepyar camp in Pauk Township on 31 May.

The military column serves as the vanguard of a ration convoy bound for Pauk Township, prompting local villagers along the Kanma-Pauk road to flee.

Local administration and the humanitarian department are providing food and shelter. Due to incessant rains, we are facing difficulties with cattle in the forests, said an official from the Pauk Township Humanitarian and Disaster Management Department.

Residents of these villages are taking shelter in forests and farmlands away from the military column. They say they urgently need shelter and food due to the ongoing heavy rains, the displaced residents reported.

“This column is believed to be the initial advance unit. Over 100 vehicles have reportedly been prepared in Battalion 101. I think they intend to send reinforcements to the Pyu Saw Htee villages in Pauk town,” said a displaced local.

Locals reported that along the column’s route, a camp belonging to a defense team from the Kanma Combined Force was burned down, and two palm climbers were arrested.

On 1 June, a convoy of over 100 ration trucks departed from Pakokku Division 101, with more than 70 arriving in Kandaw village that evening and departing the next day, 2 June.
