The military spokesperson’s word at the press conference is a direct threat to the public, the AA responds.
At the press conference of the military council on May 19th, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, Spokesperson of the military said: “We are patient with the situations for the union and peace as we don’t want to cause trouble to the people in Arakan State. Don’t blame the military if the problem arises as the AA’s undertakings amount to the call of fighting.”
No one will believe the Myanmar army’s word. The Myanmar army never takes account of the public. His words are not logical. It is just an excuse, U Khaing Thu Kha, Spokesperson of the AA told the DMG.
“Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said “Don’t put blame on the Myanmar army if something happens. His word is a direct threat to the Arakan people. It shows the Myanmar army’s plan to genocide the public if something happens,” Khaing Thu Kha added.
The military’s words are the hate speeches for the public. The military should avoid saying the threats to the public at the press conferences. Such words serve as a deterrent to the peace talks.
In my view, fighting may occur in Arakan State at any time, Khaing Kaung San, a local from Sittwe said.
The two-year-long fighting between the Myanmar army and the AA came to an end in November, 2020 through an informal cease.
Then, the AA is working to get more influence in Arakan State and extensively engages in the judiciary and administrative matters. The Myanmar army shows a dislike to the AA’s undertakings.
So, the military is trying to reactivate its influences in the villages in Arakan State, locals say.
The AA disrupts and interferes in the government’s administrative mechanism when the fighting stops. The military had to be patient with those acts, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said.
The AA has warned that fighting may resume at any time as the military tension between the Myanmar army and the AA is mounting.
