Some junta soldiers were killed in the Arakan Army’s ambush attack on a military column near Taungup-Thandwe Road in Arakan State.

At around 8:30 am on November 1, the AA ambushed a military column of more than 20 soldiers near Thetkalpyin village beside Taungup-Thandaw road. The shooting took place for around 10 minutes, a credible source says.

“The military council fired heavy shells. The AA started attacking the military council. I think the AA attacks the military as the military council is trying to arrest the people linked to the United League of Arakan (ULA) in villages and towns. The AA fired a heavy shell first. More than 10 junta soldiers were killed in the attack. The military column covers around 26 soldiers,” the news source says.

Few minutes after the ambush, the battalions based in Taungup fired heavy shells. The military council sent some military vehicles as reinforcement.

The Myanmar Peace Monitor (MPM) is unable to separately confirm the number of casualties although the news source said that the military suffered heavy casualties.

Following the ambush, the military council summoned the people from nearby villages and warned them.
On August 25, the military council attacked a temporary base camp of the AA in Taungup. The military withdrew and suffered heavy casualties.

Currently, tension mounts between the AA and Myanmar army across Arakan State. Fighting has spread to Taungup Township.
