Six innocent civilians were killed in the military council’s bombings in Lehtoopho village in Naethu village-tract in Dwalloe Township in Brigade-5 Territory of the Karen National Union (KNU), according to the KNU’s Mutraw News today.
On January 7, the military council conducted huge airstrikes in Brigade-5 Territory, using seven jet fighters. Four heavy shells fell on a house in Yarhteehta village, Maethu village-tract in Dwaloe Township, killing four family members who are working the gold mining and two gold miners, according to the Murtraw News.
The victims killed in the bombing are: Daw Nwe Ni from Yarhteehta village and her two sons, her daughter-in-law and two gold miners. The shelling destroyed a local clinic and seven buildings, according to the KNU.
On the same day, the military council dropped four bombs using two jet fighters in Dayphoeno near the KNU’s Bridge-5 Territory.
The bombings wounded a local and damaged a house and a vehicle. In the morning, the military council dropped around 20 grenades using seven jet fighters.
The bombings hit and destroyed plantations, according to the KNU.
Locals have fled to safer places following the bombardments and have to live in fear. They also face livelihood difficulties, according to locals.
On January 3, the military council dropped more than 50 grenades and fired more than 20,000 gunshots on the plantations in Malwai, Tomaekhee and Khalokhee villages in Malwai village-tract in Dwalloe Township, using four jet fighters, according to the KNU’s statement.
According to the summary list compiled by the KNU’s Brigade-5 Territory for 2022, there were 2,737 clashes in the Brigade-5 Territory in a year.
The military council conducted 35 airstrikes and dropped 182 grenades.
