During the one month of “1027 Operation” conducted by the Three Brotherhood Alliance against the military council in northern Shan State, the military council’s heavy shelling killed nearly 100 civilians and wounded more than 200 others.
Since 27 October, the Three Brotherhood Alliance has launched “Operation 1027” against the military council in more than 12 townships in northern Shan State.
On 26 October, one day before the “Operation 1027” in Lashio, the military council fired three rounds of heavy shells at the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA)-Kokang base in Honam village. Shelling killed a woman. On 9 November, heavy shelling hit and killed three women who were preparing breakfast in Mongtin village.
Of the townships where “Operation 1027Ó is being conducted, Lashio Township sees the highest number of women deaths with 10. Two women are included in the list of those who died due to the drone attack on Light Infantry Battalion-507 in upper Manai on 11 November.
On 11 and 12 November, the military council fired heavy shells and conducted airstrikes against the MNDAA-Kokang in Kokang. Heavy shelling hit a group of IDPs leaving Laukkai and killed around 20 people including two children, according to the IDPs who returned home. During the one month of “1027 Operation”, Laukkai Township saw the highest number of casualties.

The number of people who died from overt bleeding could be more, according to the Theinni IDPs.
On 17 November, a displaced woman who returned home to bring ration was shot dead by the military council soldiers in Theinni Township. On 21 November, a man was killed and a woman and a child wounded in a shooting on the IDP family Namsalat village.
The Three Brotherhood Alliance captured the military camps in Kutkai, Namkham and Muse Townships. The military council’s indiscriminate shelling resulted in the deaths women and children mostly.
On 19 and 20 November, the military council’s shelling and aerial bombardments killed a man and three children including a female student in Namhsam Township, according to the statement by Ta’ang Women’s Organization on 20 November.
On 15 November, the military council fired heavy shells in Zeephyuyay village in Thonesal village-tract in Naungcho Township, without any battles. Heavy shelling killed two children and wounded their mother and other child, according to the statement by Mandalay-PDF.
Similarly, the military council ambushed and killed the refugees who were trying to escape in Naungcho Township. About 20 local youths were abducted as human shields, Naungcho residents said.
Indiscriminate shelling by Light Infantry Battalion-501/502 based in Kyaukme killed two men in Kyaukme and Thibaw Townships. On 27 November, four people were burned to death due to an aerial bombardment near Asia World Toll Gate in Kyaukme, according to local residents from Kyaukme.
In Theinni Township, the MNDAA-Kokang has arrested nearly 20 men, including underage children. Residents said that in Monekoe of Muse Township, novices were forced to disrobe and abducted to serve in the military.
According to the statement released on 11 November, the Three Brotherhood Alliance which is conducting “Operation 1027”, the PDFs and the military council threaten the public to do forced labour, carry out forced arrests and killings and use the public as human shields. Shan people and CSOs called on them to protect the public and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) during the armed conflict.
