Military council troops have left the police post in Thakyettaw village in Launglon Township, Tanintharyi Region, on the morning of 14 January, locals and the People’s Defense Force – Launglon told Than Lwin Times.

On January 13, the junta police station, which consisted of about 15 soldiers from the military council and police, was reinforced with more than 20 soldiers who arrived via waterway but left the township completely on the morning of January 14.

Before leaving the post, they dismantled the bunkers and guard houses inside the post and also erased the sign with white paint, local residents said.

A local PDF official said it is unlikely they abandoned the post for fear of a raid, but they may have abandoned it because of its military insignificance.

In addition, local defense officials have warned the public not to enter the site because junta soldiers and police may have planted mines in the compound.

Locals said those who left the Thakyettaw police post may have joined forces with those at the Kyauknimaw village police station.

On January 6, two regime troops were shot while trying to buy palm wine at a stall at the entrance to the village, killing one and injuring the other.

The regime’s withdrawal from the Thakyettaw police station was the first retreat from its position in Launglon Township in the two years since the military coup.
