Refugee camps in Karenni State have difficulty in buying rations, according to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
An IDP from the west of Demawsoe Township said: “We find it difficult to buy necessary foods. We have no enough money to buy food as we have no jobs. We have to buy dry rations, salt and chili. We haven’t received rice, edible oil and chicken eggs for children for many months. Buying these items is also difficult. Commodity prices have soared. So, we face a lot of difficulties.”
“The people mainly donate rice. It is enough only for those who have few family members. I face difficulties as I have seven family members. Well-wishers donate rice at The IDPs in the east of Demawsoe Township every week. The IDPs have sufficient rice as the main donation is rice. The IDPs have no money to buy meat and other items,” he added.
Fighting has been taking place between local Defense Forces and the military council for nearly eight months in Karenni State. Fighting displaced around 150,000 people in Karenni State.
