RCSS Leader condemn Junta crackdown, Warn to be held accountable

“The formation of Interim National Unity Government (NUG) is the important step for the ultimate culmination of military dictatorship and for the foundation of Federal Democracy,” said General Yawd Serk, the PPST Acting Leader.

General Yawd Serk inserted this message in the opening speech of the Ethnic Peace Parties Peace Team (PPST) meeting which was held on April 26 by Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) members.

“The legally formation of the National Unity Government (NUG) on April 16 with the cooperation of inclusive stakeholders is the important step for the ultimate culmination of military dictatorship and for the foundation of Federal Democracy. We, the PPST, warmly welcome and cherish upon the formation of the National Unity Government,” said General Yawd Serk.

Interim National Unity Government (NUG) has emerged from Spring Revolution movements after February 1 coup and it is a unique government comprised with ethnic people and professionals from various sectors.

“At this moment in time the military junta has been seriously attacking upon the Spring Revolution movements. We will keep supporting those non-stopping high-risky revolution movements,” said General Yawd Serk.

Besides, General Yawd Serk said that military leaders must be accountable for the deaths of civilians due to their shots.

“Regarding the deaths of more than 700 innocent civilians during this Spring Revolution, the military leaders must be accountable for those deaths due to their brutal killing and serious attack,” said General Yawd Serk.

General Yawd Serk stated that we welcomed the Five Point of Consensus arising from the ASEAN Leaders Summit held on April 24 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Then he sincerely urged to implement the consensus with the definite work plans as soon as possible.

PPST Acting Leader stated that Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) will cooperate with ASEAN for the implementation of the Five Point of Consensus, including such as an immediate cessation of violence in Myanmar, seeking a peaceful solution to the crisis via constructive dialogue, appointing a special envoy to mediate in the Myanmar crisis, providing humanitarian assistance to the country and allowing special envoy travel to Myanmar to meet with all parties in the crisis.

PPST Meeting of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) members will be hold for two days. The topics of how to solve the current political turmoil of Myanmar and how to build its future plan will be possibly discussed in the meeting.

Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) members are Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS), Karen National Union (KNU), All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF), Chin National Front (CNF), Karen National Liberation Army/Peace Council (KNLA/PC), Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO), Arakan Liberation Party (ALP), Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), New Mon State Party (NMSP) and Lahu Democratic Union (LDU).
