Joint Secretary (2) of the Palaung State Liberation Front/Ta’ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA) Tar Parn La said that all Mon armed organizations resisting the military dictatorship need to abandon the National Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), which has become detached from the current reality, and fully engage in the struggle.
Tar Parn La, a leader of the PSLF/TNLA, made the remarks during an online event marking the 77th Mon Revolution Day organized by the Mon State Federal Council on 19 August.
He said that the fight against military dictatorship across the country has come halfway, but the revolutionary youth in Mon State are still lagging behind and need to be awakened.
Tar Parn La said, “In this revolution in which many young people are participating, I must openly say that our brothers from Mon State are a little behind. Not only the youth and middle-aged people are slow to act, but also our parent organizations, the elders, are somewhat disconnected from the current situation and still can’t let go of the NCA.”
“At this time when the country is about to change and we have come quite far, if we can abandon the NCA and fully participate in the revolution, we should see it as a very good opportunity,” he added.
Tar Parn La also said that only if all the resistance organizations, including the New Mon State Party – Anti-Dictatorship (NMSP-AD), which has split from the New Mon State Party, and the mother party itself, unite and fight together in the revolution can they realize the Mon State they aspire to.
He also expressed the view that the Mon people, who have a stronger historical background, higher educational qualifications and a better economic status than the Ta’ang/Palaung, are not yet consistently participating in the revolution.
Tar Parn La warned: “What the Mon are doing has not yet had an impact. I see that they have yet to show any tangible success. Work together in unity. Unity is crucial. The elders have done their duty to a certain extent. But those under 40, around 35, are not yet working effectively. From this position, I urge you to participate fully in our rebuilding efforts as we come out of our offices. Rise up. Become active. Revolt.”
He concluded by saying, “Now is the best opportunity, the best time. Let us work together in unity. We, your Ta’ang/Palaung/Wa brothers, are always with the Mon. Rise up. Let us rise and act together, let us fight together and rebuild the Mon state together.”
The 77th Mon Revolution Day ceremony, organized by the Mon State Federal Council (MSFC), was held online. It was attended by at least 85 people, including monks, leader of political organizations from various sectors, the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), the National Unity Government (NUG), armed resistance groups, civil society organizations, women and youths.
At the virtual event, leaders of various resistance groups, including the chairpersons and leaders, a NUCC leader, a NUG minister, a PSLF/TNLA leader, a NMSP-AD leader, delivered congratulatory speeches and read out messages, according to reports.
