The Operations Department of Tanintharyi Region People’s Defense Force (PDF) has issued a statement warning the public to avoid using No. 8 Union Road in Myeik District, Tanintharyi Region at night.
In the statement dated 16 September, the Region PDF warned the public in Myeik District to avoid using Union Road in Pawlaw Township, as well as the route from Kyaukphyutaung junction at the exit of Myeik Township along Kyaynantaing Road and Union Road in Tanintharyi Township, from 6 pm to 6 am.
Passengers traveling during the day are advised to keep their vehicle windows down, and trucks should not be fully covered.
According to the Region PDF and local residents, the military council is committing crimes during their raids, including the abduction of civilians for use as porters, conducting military operations under the guise of civilian cover, and burning civilian homes.
The village administrators and 100-household heads, who are the pillars of the military council, are also working to activate the conscription law and force people to serve in the military.
Due to these circumstances, the joint military columns of battlions and units under the command of the strategic region-35 (Tanintharyi) will intensify their operations in the affected townships. They will attack and clear military and administrative targets, the statement says.
On the other hand, tenions remain high between the military council force and the joint PDFs in Palaw, Myeik and Tanintharyi Townships in Myeik District.
The statement emphasizes that strict compliance is necessary due to the military council’s covert activities. They will not be held responsible for any incidents that occur if the prohibition is not followed.
