Around 50,000 displaced locals from Pale Township of Sagaing Region are in need of health care and medicine, according to the people helping the Internally Displaced People (IDPs)

In addition to emergency aid, health care and medicine are the main needs of the local residents who fled due to the offensive of the military council in Pale Township in the first week of October, Ko Toe Wai Aung, an official of the Pale Public Strike Leading Committee said.

“IDPs are in need of health care and medicine. The IDPs can rely on each other for food. Health care may be difficult if the military column continues to conduct offensives. Even more difficult for children and the elderly. There is seasonal flu due to the rainy season. We have to provide treatment for them with the use of medicine available,” Ko Toe Wai Aung said.

“We are trying to solve a shortage of food rations by asking for donations. There are a lot of snakebites now. The rate of snakebites becomes rampant. The IDPs do not receive sufficient aid from the National Unity Government (NUG). We are working on it by affiliating with the NUG’s Ministry of Defense,” he said.

It is working on the availability of aid in connection with the National Unity Government (NUG). Due to the lack of manpower and medicines on the ground, health care may become more difficult in the long-term depending on military offensives, military tension and delays, he continued.

Locals from 15 villages have fled to safer places as two military columns conduct offensives in Pale Township simultaneously. The military council carried out indiscriminate shelling and burned down some villages.

A person helping the IDPs said: “The military council’s two military columns conduct simultaneous offensives in the northern part of Pale Township. The people from the villages included in the offensive operation have to flee to safety. It can be said that approximately 50,000 people are fleeing the war. The military council indiscriminately fires heavy shells into the southern part of Pale. The people from around 15 villages in southern and northern parts of Pale have to flee. They have to flee when the military column arrives in downtown Pale.

Even monks have to flee to safer places due to the military council’s offensives. The military council conducted offensives in Myakone, Kukkokone, Letpukan, Hnawkan, Mintaingpin, Lettaunggyi, Zediyone, Thaythayar, Sinshin, Khawthanni, Thidin and Monethwin villages.

Villagers from those villages have fled to safer places. They return to their villages when the military columns have withdrawn. However, some villagers go back home. Most of the villagers are taking refuge in the designated places.

The people from the villages close to Pyu Saw Htee villages in Pale Township, always flee from their villages. There are four permanent IDP camps. ChaungU village has been burned down by the military council three times, according to the residents and those helping refugees
