A combined force of the Dawei Guerrilla Revolutionary Force (DGRF) and the People’s Defense Force (PDF) attacked a nine-member team which was collecting the census data in Kamyawkin village in Launglon Township in Tanintharyi Region, at around 11 am on January 9, information officer of the DGRF told the Than Lwin Times.
The combined force attacked the team including two junta soldiers in front of the basic education primary schools.
One junta soldier was killed and one other injured in the attack. The combined force seized a gun, according to the statement released by the combined force.
This attack is just a warning. It shall not be held responsible for the persons involved in the election, the information officer of the DGRF said.
Hundreds of passenger buses and motorcycles had to wait in a long queue as the military council blocked Kamyawkin Bridge and conducted a search following that attack.
The military council plans to carry out the door-to-door collection of census data for the election from January 9 to 31.
The revolution forces have requested the public not to cooperate in the collection of census data on the ground for the 2023 election as the military council may conduct targeted searches for the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) staff, students and those involved in the revolution.
