A 17-year-old female was killed and three others seriously injured by the military council’s artillery shelling into Noeboe-Hteemuhtar village in Myawaddy Township in Myawaddy District, at around 5 am on March 24th, villagers told the KIC.
The military council fired heavy weapons into the village after a clash with a combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) under the Karen National Union (KNU).
A local said: “She cooked rice early in the morning. She died as the artillery shell landed on her house and hit her head. Her mother sent her to the hospital. She died on the way as there were no hospitals and clinics.”
On the morning of March 24th, the military council fired around six rounds of 120 MM rocket launchers.
The victim killed in the artillery shelling is a student who turned 17 on March 23th.
Another young woman who got wounds to urine bladder and waist, has lost consciousness. She has a low oxygen level and is in critical condition.
The couple got wounds to their legs, a local woman said. The heavy shelling hit two houses and destroyed a vehicle.
The region sees frequent fighting between the military council and the KNLA. The military council usually fires heavy weapons whenever there are clashes, according to locals.
