A young man from Barlon village in Falam Township of Chin State was killed and his colleague, wounded after a motorbike stepped on a landmine on June 30th.

Salai Ban Hlyan Ouk and Salai Peter Dein Hlyan Hsan from Barlon village located on Kalay-Falam Road, went to Zaunglay village by motorbike on the morning of June 30th.

In the incident, Salai Peter Dein Hlyan Hsan, 22, died on the spot, and his colleague was wounded.

“Most of the villagers have fled to safer places as they hear the news that a military column of around 23 military vehicles is heading to Falam via Kalay. The victims visited their friends in the nearby villages. I heard the sound of a mine explosion shortly after they left the village,” a local says.

The Chin National Organization/Chin National Defense Force (CNO/CNDF) has warned the public to avoid using Kalay-Falam Road as the military column was leaving Kalay for Chin State on June 27th.
