A 25-year-old female lance-corporal who defected to the Karenni Democratic Front (KDF) was sent to the liberated area, according to the KDF’s statement on June 2th.

“She contacted us two weeks ago. She tried every possible way to defect. We helped her to defect,” an official of the KDF told the KT.

The defector is lance-corporal Ma Victoria (aka) Thoe Ka Lay who served in the anti-drug police force in Pinlaung Township. She defected to the KDF as she no longer was patient about the atrocities committed by the terrorist military council, according to the statement.

“We give her three options. The first option is to perform duty in the Karenni State Police (KSP). The second option is defection to the public. The last option is to perform duty at the KDF. We have designated a one-month monitoring period. We will proceed with it based on her option, the KDF official said.

So far, two soldiers and two police members have defected to the KDF. One defector is performing duties of the KDF while the rest are allowed to choose their options, he added.

She called on the police and soldiers to join the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) as the CDM is the only way to defeat the terrorist military council without fighting.

The KDF said it would provide a reward of Ks-3 million to the soldiers and police who can defect to the KDF along with arms. The KDF will make arrangements for the safety of defectors, the KDF said.
