Shell fired by the military council exploded in Hnitkayin village in Ye Township of Mon State, killing a woman and destroying two houses, according to locals.
At around 9 pm on 8 June, an armed force entered Hnitkayin village by firing three shots and abducted village administrator U Nay Win Myint, locals said.
Locals continued to say that at that time, the military council’s artillery force based in Walphal village between Hnitkayin village and new Mawkanin village, fired shells into Hnitkayin village.
A local said: “At around 9.30 am, the army fired two rounds of shells consecutively. The shell landed near the Chinese cemetery at ward No.5 in Hnitkayin village. The shelling killed Ma Tin Gyi, a 25-year-old migrant worker while she was being sent to the hospital. The shell also destroyed two civilian houses.”
At around 10 am the same day, a heavy shell landed and exploded near the chinese cemetery. On the morning of 7 June, unknown armed members entered the village, a migrant worker said.
“There is no army in the village. It has been about six months the police members are not present although the village has the police outpost. The village has no people’s militia force. There is no fighting today,” the migrant worker added.
Village administrator U Nay Win Myint, who was abducted by the armed group, arrived back home in the afternoon, according to locals.
There are frequent clashes between the PDFs and the military council army in Ye Township where martial law is imposed. Civilian casualties are reported in Ye Township due to the military council’s shootings and the PDFs.
