The Arakan Army (AA) recognizes the efforts being made by the National Unity Government (NUG) for the restoration of a genuine democracy and has established the relations with the revolutionary organizations including the NUG as it wants to build the country, U Khaing Thu Kha, Spokesperson of the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) said at the press conference on June 14th.
“We have a good relationship with the NUG. We want more friends than enemies. Having a lot of friends is good for us as we are making a revolution with the aim of building the country. Whatever the situation is, we are making relations with all organizations working for national liberation in addition to the NUG and the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs), as friends,” he says.
On May 16th, the AA held an online meeting with the ULA/AA for two hours.
The meeting focused on mutual cooperation between them. The main point is that as we said before we have no reason to object to the efforts being made by the NUG and the PDFs to get the genuine democracy. We recognize their efforts for the freedom from oppression, U Khaing Thu Kha continues.
At present, the AA has a good relation with the NUG. On the other hand, there is a military tension between the AA and the Myanmar military. The AA did not attend the peace talk invited by Chair of the State Administration Council Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
We decided not to attend the peace talk due to the current situations, the political stances of the allied forces fighting for revolution, ongoing oppressions and arrests in Arakan State, relations and inconsistency, he added.
In the wake of the coup, the AA gave military training and advice to the Bamar People’s Liberation Army (BPLA) and some people’s liberation forces and armed them.
