NUCC’s first people’s congress kicks off

The opening of the first people’s congress organized by the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), a body formed to bring together forces opposed to the coup regime, was held via online on the morning of January 27th.

In the opening speech, Ko Naung Cho, the representative from the General Strike Committee of Nationalities (GSCN) said the people’s congress would discuss the topics on the basic principles, policies, strategies and transitional measures pertaining to politics, social and security and the eradication of dictatorship, so as to end the dictatorship and build up the federal democratic union through the collection of the federal democracy bodies.

The representatives from the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), political parties, unions, protest leaders, youths, women activists, ethnic minority organizations, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), civil servants who have joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), ethnic armed revolutionary resistance organizations and the committee representing the State Federal Units for interim period are participating in the first people’s congress.

The NUCC’s people’s congress will take place from January 27th to 30th. The federal democracy charter will be discussed and approved at the four-day congress. The NUCC will publicize the real-time information about the charter.

The National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) held its first press conference on November 16th.
