Approximately 600 locals fled to downtown Namhsan on December 9, following the clash between the military council and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in northern Shan State.

Locals from Manlon and Peinlon have fled to Khayangyi monastery in Namhsan. Nearly 300 locals remain stranded in the clash. The organizations are helping rescue the stranded locals.

“Since last night, some people have fled for safety. Today, more people are fleeing for safety. Now, we are trying to rescue more than 300 stranded locals. Currently, the total number of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) has reached around 600. That number doesn’t include those who have fled to other towns,” a man who helps the IDPs says.

“Some IDPs could bring nothing. They are in need of blankets, clothes and food. The weather is cold as it is the winter season,” he adds.

Currently, fighting between the TNLA and the military council continues to intensify. Most of the IDPs are women and children.

A local from Namhsan said: “The military council has tightened inspections at the entry and exit of Namhsan. Junta soldiers are inspecting mobile phones.”

Since the intense fighting between the military council and the TNLA on December 7, the military council has been carrying out airstrikes on the camps of the TNLA.
