Nearly 1,000 people who have been displaced by ongoing clashes between opposing armed forces in Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region, are in urgent need of assistance, according aid workers assisting the displaced.
Since 20 April, resistance groups have been attacking military junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee militia stationed in Min Thar village in Yebyu Township, leading to ongoing skirmishes between the two sides.
As a result of these clashes, nearly a thousand residents from Min Thar, Sein Bon, Hpa Yar Thone Su, Sin Swei, Yae Ngan Gyi, and Kyauk Ta Lone villages have fled to safer areas and nearby villages.
The displaced locals have been in hiding for nearly two weeks. Due to the fighting, they are unable to travel to buy food and medicine, creating an urgent need for emergency aid.
While some support is being provided to the displaced through accessible channels, one aid worker noted that food supplies could run out in the long term.
During the Yebyu clashes, artillery shelling and airstrikes by the junta injured three civilians and damaged at least seven homes, sources confirmed.
In Tanintharyi Region, clashes between the junta troops and resistance groups, along with airstrikes, displaced nearly 70,000 civilians in March alone, according to a report by the local research group FE5 Thanintharyi.
