Myanmar’s military junta launched a fresh airstrike on Thandwe in Arakan State early Sunday morning, killing a 50-year-old man and his 14-year-old daughter.
Three other civilians, including a toddler, were injured in the attack.
The incident occurred around 6:00 AM on August 16, 2026, when a junta jet fighter dropped a 500-pound bomb on Ward No. 8.
The strike completely destroyed local homes.
Local officials identified the deceased as U Min Naung, 50, and his daughter, Ma Chun Lai Shwe Yi, 14, who both died instantly.
The injured victims include U Zeyar Min Lwin, 45, Daw Htay Htay Maw, 40, and two-year-old Ma Shwe Moe Ye Thaw.
Local residents fear the casualty count will rise as emergency teams clear the rubble.
This attack follows a pattern of escalating junta airstrikes targeting civilian areas across Thandwe and Gwa townships, which have claimed nearly 30 civilian lives over the past a few days.
