A Muslim man was reportedly killed when a landmine exploded in Myanmar territory bordering Ghumdhum union parishad in southern Naikhongchhari Upazila in Bangladesh on Sunday morning.
The accident occurred when the refugee man was searching for fish.
The victim was 27-year-old Omor Faruk, the Dhaka-based Daily Star newspaper reported.
He was living in the refugee camp on the border between the two countries, called no man’s land, near Taungpyo Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
Omor Faruk had crossed the border and entered Myanmar territory to look for fish in a stream. In the accident, he was hit by a landmine explosion, said Jahangir Aziz, administrator of Ghumdhum Union Parishad.
In recent weeks, the Myanmar’s military council has attacked the Arakan Army (AA) from the air and ground.
Several reports also say that ongoing fighting between the junta’s security forces and AA has terrified the population along the border.
