Mr. Sasa Kawa, Japan’s Special Envoy for National Reconciliation in Myanmar held separate meetings with some ethnic armed revolutionary resistance organizations in Chiang Mai of Thailand on March 10th.
Mr. SaSa Kawa met the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), the Karen National Union (KNU) and the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) separately.
Khu Oo Reh, Chair of the KNPP, U Aung San Myint, Secretary-2 of the KNPP and Nal Nae Palo from the Karenni Emergency Rescue Team attended the meeting with Mr. Sasa Kawa.
U Aung San Myint, Secretary-2 of the KNPP said: “We did not discuss anything special. The KNPP has been cooperating with the Nippon Foundation in providing humanitarian assistance. Both sides discussed ways of how to continue providing assistance for education. We did not discuss other matters.”
U Aung San Myint said: “Both sides discussed a plan to provide more humanitarian assistance according to the current situation. Both sides did not reach any agreement.”
“In the past, Japan provided assistance for the education sector. We discussed this matter. Today’s meeting is seeking ways of how to provide more assistance under the current circumstance. There is no agreement between us. We meet for a relationship. At present, there is no plan,” he added.
In addition to the KNPP, Mr. Sasa Kawa also met the KNU’s Chair General Mutu Say Poe and Chair of the RCSS General Yawd Serk.
About the meeting between Mr. Sasa Kawa and Chair of the KNU General Mutu Say Poe, both sides will not discuss the political situation. The meeting will mainly focus on the matter on Lay Kay Kaw, Padoh Saw Taw Nee, the head of the Foreign Affairs Department and a member of the KNU Central Committee told the media.
The Network Media Group (NMG) was unable to contact the spokesperson of the RCSS to ask the topic discussed between the RCSS and Mr. Sasa Kawa.
This is the first meeting between Mr. Sasa Kawa and some Ethnic Armed Revolutionary Resistance Organizations based on the Thai-Myanmar border, since the military coup on February 1st, 2021.
