More than 2,000 villagers have fled to safer places as the military council’s troops carried out attacks by helicopters after fighting between the military council’s troops and the People’s Defense Force (PDF) near Aungsimyay village in the west of Depayin Township in Sagaing Region, according to locals.
At around 7 am on December 7th, fighting took place in Aungsimyay village. At around 9 am, the military council’s troops carried out attacks by Mi-35 helicopter for around 45 minutes, according to locals.
A local from Aaungsimyay village said: “The military fired shots with machine guns and missiles. In the afternoon, the military reinforced troops by helicopter.”
Due to airstrikes, more than 2,000 people from Paungtaungku, Linpyinkwat, east Tattae, west Tattae, Myakanthar, Aungsimyay and Nagarkwin villagers have fled to safer places, according to locals.
Two local PDF members were killed in the fighting while there were no reports of casualties from the military council, he added.
The military reinforced troops by a helicopter at around 1 pm. The troops are stationed in Nagarkwin village, according to locals.
After airstrikes, the people from Taegyi village have gone into hiding due to the indiscriminate firing of heavy weapons in nearby villages.
The people from around eight villages are taking shelter. Nagarkwin village has over 600 households while other villages have more than 100 households each.
The military council has not released any information about fighting.
On November 27th, the military council’s troops carried out attacks by helicopters near Nyaunghla village.
On November 8th, the military deployed troops from the north-west command by four helicopters. The military is carrying out area clearance operations in Depayin, Tanze and YayU Townships.
