More than 200 civilians were killed and nearly 90 others injured during one and half years of the coup in Tanintharyi Region, the Southern Monitor, which a research team told the Than Lwin Times.
Among those killed are the civilians killed by the military council and the military council’s subordinate organizations and the military informants.
April and June saw a significant increase in the number of civilian deaths and injuries, according to the information officer of the Southern Monitor.
More than 140 assassination cases and civilian deaths were reported in Tanintharyi Region during over one year of the coup.
A total of 93 civilian houses were burned down. The incidents were reported mostly in Palaw, Thayetchaung and Tanintharyi Townships.
During the coup period, there were 133 clashes between the military council army and the local defense force. A total of 219 bomb blasts and mine attacks were also reported.
More than 17,000 civilians are hiding in nearby forests due to the ongoing fighting, according to the Southern Monitor.
