The military council has arrested at least 13 locals in downtown Dawei in Tanintharyi Region on January 2 and 3 for alleged links to and funding the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs), residents told the Than Lwin Times.
At around 10 am on January 2, the junta soldiers arrested Ko Maung Lay who opens the liquor shop on the Strand Road in Kyatsarpyin ward in Dawei, his wife and son and four others in the shop.
On the afternoon of January 2, soldiers arrested three family members in downtown Dawei and the parents of Ko Maung Lay in Kyatsarpyin ward.
The military council is carrying out the arrests of family members following the detention of a local.
At around 9 am on January 3, the military arrested barista Ko Han Lin from Nibbana street.
The military council has sent some detainees to the interrogation center while some others are being detained at Dawei Myoma police station.
According to the statement released by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) on January 2, the military detained nearly 17,000 since the coup. More than 13,000 of the detainees remain behind bars.
