The military council arrested more than 10 locals following a bomb blast at Malargone junction near an inspection gate on Pathein-Yangon road in Kangyidaunt of Ayeyarwady Region at around 6 am on December 14.
The junta soldiers consecutively arrested locals from Kangyidaunt, Baegayat and Marlargone junction on December 14 and 15, according to locals.
“Junta soldiers detain the people acting on the tip-off from informants. Junta soldiers usually carry out mass arrests of civilians accusing them of having links with the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs), whenever there are blasts and shootings,” a local says.
The bomb planted under the Malaysia padauk tree near the inspection gate in Kangyidaunt occurred. There were no reports of casualties in the blast.
Currently, more than 10 locals are being detained at Kangyidaunt police station, according to those close to the police.
The resistance forces in Kangyidaunt Township claimed that they had nothing to do with the blast, according to local news sources.
On November 4, 2021, a bomb blast and fire occurred at the basic education high school in Raway village in Kangyidaunt Township. At that time, the junta soldiers beat and arrested more than 70 locals including school guards, farmers and youths. Some detainees were imprisoned, according to locals.
The junta detained at least 100 political prisoners in Pathein prison in connection with the blasts and shooting in Kangyidaunt Township, without sound evidence, according to those who were released on November 17, under the amnesty.
