Almost all people from Waitun village in Matupi Township have fled to liberated areas and other villages since March 28th due the military council’s increased deployment of troops.

An information officer of the CDF-Matupi said: “At present, almost all people in Waitu village have left the village. They flee the village as they fear that they may get arrested. Some refugees are staying in nearby villages while others flee to liberated areas.”

On March 26th, around 50 soldiers carried out area clearance in Waitu village. Locals fled to the forests as the military council arrested the people for alleged links with the Chinland Defense Force and seized 24 mobile phones.

Waitu village located about five miles from Matupi has a population of around 250. The military strategic hill is located in front of Matupi. Military strategy and Light Infantry Battalion-304 and 104 are stationed in Matupi.

Currently, a military convoy of more than 80 vehicles is leaving Mindat for Matupi. Fighting is taking place between the military and CDF-Mindat halfway through.
