The military council’s troops torched and destroyed more than 20 houses and churches in new Thlanrawn village and Yeeyalthee village on Falam-Hakha Road in Falam Township in Chin State, on October 13th and 14th.

A local from the new Thlanrawn village said: “The military torched the houses when it arrived in our village on October 14th. I don’t know how many houses were destroyed during that period. The Thlanrawn Emergency Response Committee (TERC) went to the village to inspect the situation when the military left the village on October 19th. The military torched and destroyed 13 houses in Thlanrawn. The military also torched almost all houses and a church in Yeeyalthee village. The military torched ten houses there. There is only one house left.”

On October 11th, fighting between the military council’s troops heading to Chin State via Kalay and a combined force of the Chin National Front (CNF), the Chinland Defense Force (CDF) and the Chin National Defense Force (CNDF) took place on the road between Falam and Hakha. While the people from seven villages of Falam Township were taking shelter in the forests, the military council’s troops torched houses and burgled the houses.

The values of 13 houses and churches destroyed by the military council’s troops in Thlanrawn village amount to over Ks-120 million. Plan is under way to carry out the resettlement of 71 people whose houses were lost when they go home, said a head from the Thlanrawn Emergency Response Committee.

“All villagers are hiding in the forests soon after we know the military vehicles arrived in Falam on October 13th. The committee doesn’t allow the villagers to go home as their houses are damaged. Our committee is still discussing how to carry out resettlement when they go home. We need to carry out resettlement for 13 damaged houses,” said a member of the TERC.

Thlanrawn Emergency Response Committee (TERC) was formed since June. The IDPs from new Thlanrawn village have to rely on the rations stored for the emergency use.

The military council’s troops also torched four houses in Tar village in Falam Township. Three houses were damaged by heavy shells. The military council’s troops killed animals and ate rations.
