One Internally Displaced People (IDPs) was killed and two others wounded in the military council’s bombardment on an IDP camp on the Thai-Karenni border on 12 July.

The attack destroyed buildings, U Aung San Myint, Secretary-2 of the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) said.

“The military council bombed the IDP camp at around 1 am. The military council bombed it four times. The bombardment destroyed a school, a clinic, a church and some houses. The bombardment killed one IDP and wounded two civilians,” U Aung San Myint said.

More than 5,000 people are taking shelter in the IDP camp which experienced the military council’s bombardment. Currently, the IDPs have fled to safer places, he said.

“At night on 12 July, the military council bombed Thawsu in Hpasawng Township. It killed a 11-year-old boy and destroyed a church and nine houses,” U Aung San Myint continued.

The KNPP said that the military council’s flights are flying along the Thai-Karenni border every day. In addition, it is carrying out targeted bombardments on civilian areas.

“Taking a look at yesterday’s event, churches and schools are directly targeted. It is very obvious. The junta attacked civilian targets. Targeted attacks on civilians amount to committing crime against humanity bluntly. I would like to call on the international community to make collective efforts in order that the military council can’t enjoy impunity,” U Aung San Myint added.

After the military coup, the military council force began to carry out widespread airstrikes in the conflict-affected areas.

The military council’s airstrike killed some locals and displaced them in some areas due to the military council’s shootings without discriminating between military and civilian targets.

Revolutionary organizations and activists working for IDPs have called on the international community to install air-defense systems in order to prevent the civilians from deadly airstrikes.

Despite their repeated demands, nothing has changed till date. The people continue to die due to the junta’s airstrikes, activists, human rights activists and the people helping the IDPs, said.
