The military council arrested ten civilians to be used as human shields in Zotung in Matupi Township of Chin State, an official of CDF-Zotung said.
On 4 February, there was a clash between the military council troops and the Chinland Defense Force (CDF)-Zotung between Tansee village and Htawlan village in the Zotung area of Matupi Township. The military council used ten locals as human shields in the battle.
Among ten victims used as human shields are two girls aged below 18. The military council released two of ten detainees, according to the CDF-Zotung.
Ko John, Spokesperson of CDF-Zotung said: “Frankly speaking, taking civilians as hostages is a cowardly act when the armed groups can do nothing.”
On 5 February, the military council troops abducted and killed CDF-Zotung member Salai Harkarlyan, 24.
The military council troops have been advancing to the Zotung area in recent days. The area sees mounting military tension between the CDF and the military council.
