The military council has ordered the shutdown of some basic education schools in Moemake Township in Northern Shan State.
Since fighting took place between the Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA) and the military council in Moemake Township on September 17th, the military ordered the shutdown of a middle school in Wanbonekan (Moebone village) and a primary school in Wanohn village, locals told the Shan News.
“The military ordered the shutdown of two schools. Since the military council advanced to Hwaykham mountain on the evening of September 17th, students were allowed to return to their homes. Till now, the military has not ordered the schools to reopen,” a local man told the Shan News on condition of anonymity.
The junta soldiers ordered the shutdown of schools as Wanbonekan village and Wanohn village are located near the foot of Hwaykham Mountain, locals say.
Following the clash in Hwaykham ridge, the military council is deploying its troops to nearby areas. Tension between the SSPP/SSA continues to mount.
“Not only locals but also the military council knows that we are present here. Villagers don’t go to that place. We have got the news that the military council is deploying troops. Fighting will erupt if the military council intrudes into our territory and increases deployments,” an official of the SSPP/SSA which is active in Moemake Township told the Shan News.
On September 16th, the military council informed in-charges of the SSPP/SSA about the resignation of the SSPP/SSA members which are active in Moemake Township, through ward administrators. The military council conducted an offensive on September 17th as the SSPP/SSA members did not resign, according to the SSPP’s statement.
There was a clash between the SSPP/SSA and the military council between Moebone and Wanohn villages in Moemake Township on July 1st.
