The military council’s two jet fighters dropped four bombs near Maliyan village in Waingmaw Township on Myitkyina-Bhamo road in Kachin State, at around 11 pm on 4 August, according to the frontline news sources close to the Kachin Independence Army (KIA).

Two military council fighter jets took off from Mandalay TadaU Airport and bombed at around 11:30 AM. There is no fighting on the ground. On August 3, the junta troops withdrew from the military camp in Gandaungyan, Colonel Naw Bu, information officer of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) said.

Following the aerial bombardment, fighting again took place between the KIA and the military council near Maliyan village.

Tension mounts between the military council and the KIA along Myitkyina-Bhamo as the military council has advanced towards Namhsanyan since 3 July.

The military council carried out aerial bombardments near Namhsanyan three times.
Fighting continues as the military council troops gradually conduct offensives to Madeeyan, Aungjar and Khayar on Myitkyina-Bhamo road, Colonel Naw Bu continued.

“Now, the battle is still going on. It may be a long-term battle. It is still tense. I want the people to be careful as the military council is still firing heavy weapons into civilian targets,” he said.
Due to the intense fighting between the military council and the KIA in Namhsanyan village in 2011, all the locals fled the village for about eight years. In December 2018, the IDPs returned to the village.

Two armed organizations have agreed not to station near Namhsanyan village for the safe return of locals. However, fighting occurred as the military prepared to station near the village in September, 2022, on 16 June and on 1 July 2023, according to locals.

Locals from the villages on Myitkyina-Bhamo road, including Namhsanyan village, have fled to Waingmaw Township in Myitkyina.
