The military junta continues its bombardment of Mindat town in southern Chin State, dropping more 500-pound bombs on the morning of 19 September, according to Mindat residents.
Residents report that the military carried out four airstrikes on Mindat with two fighter jets at around 4am on 19 September, dropping 500-pound bombs as well as smaller bombs. The attack reportedly caused some damage and destruction.
A resident of Mindat said, “In the early morning, shortly after 4am, the nearby areas of the town were bombed continuously, but the residential wards weren’t hit. We aren’t sure about the number of casualties as we couldn’t communicate properly. At the moment we’re just trying to hide safely. Since they’re targeting certain places from the air, there could be some destruction and casualties.”
The resident went on to say that a bomb fell on an elephant foot yam plantation about two miles away from Mindat and exploded, but the extent of the damage was unknown.
Similarly, on the evening of 18 September, the military carried out three airstrikes near Maing Lay Se village in the Station 1 area of Mindat Township. On 16 September, they also attacked an area between Mindat and Kyauk Htu with 500-pound bombs as well as smaller bombs, according to locals.
There was no ground fighting in Mindat Township, but the military continues to carry out airstrikes. It reportedly carried out at least seven airstrikes in September alone.
