The military arrested the relatives of U Tun Tun Naing, the MP from the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Pindaya Township in southern Shan State, at Inpalat village as the military did not find him.
The military arrested 25 persons at around 12 pm on June 18th. Then, the military released 16 detainees in the evening as among the detainees are the elderly. The military wants to take them as hostages as it cannot arrest U Tun Tun Naing, a local man from Pindaya says.
“Currently, nine persons are being detained at Pindaya Police station. All detainees are males. The military attempts to arrest U Tun Tun Naing citing that he funds and encourages the People’s Defense Force (PDF),” A local man says.
At around 10 am on June 18th, U Kyaw Nyein from the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) was shot dead.
The arrest came after the assassination of U Kyaw Nyein. He is a military informant. He performs the duties assigned by the military. He is allowed to hold a pistol, he added.
There are seven military informants including U Kyaw Nyein in Pindaya.
According to the report released by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), the military killed 1,963 people and arrested 14,156 since the coup till June 17th.
