Military council soldiers have reportedly arrested a member of the Yadanaparla Funeral Service Association at his home in Mrauk-U Township, Arakan State, this morning.
The arrested man is U Maung Kyaw Nyunt, the head of the funeral vehicle service group.
The junta soldiers arrested him at 6 am on October 6 at his house in Let Kauk Zee district in Mrauk-U, said a source close to him.
“They arrested him at his house at 6:30 am. He is the person in charge of the funeral vehicle association. And he also runs a grocery store in the market. I have no idea why he was arrested. I can say that he was taken to either Battalion 377 or 378 because he was arrested by the regime soldiers,” he said.
A ward administrator, who did not want to be named, said [junta soldiers] have increased arbitrary checks on residents in Mrauk-U Township, heightening fears among the population.
“Right now, the residents of Mrauk-U are worried. They [the junta soldiers] are conducting checks on guest lists at night. They do not seem to have a specific target, but tend to make arbitrary arrests. This has everyone worried,” he said.
The military council has so far arrested former reporter Ko Phoe Thiha, Ko Kyaw Zan Wai, also known as Ko Yin Hsot, and two brothers of the Nanyeik Karuna Free Oxygen Aid Group from Mrauk-U Township, and also U Ba Kyaw, who runs a pharmacy.
