Many locals from Banmauk Township in Sagaing Region have fled to safer places due to the military tension, according to locals.
Many locals flee to the north, the west and Indaw. The downtown area is silent, a local says.
A romour about bombing is circulating among the public.
The shooting was reported in Myoma ward in Banmauk from around 2 pm to 3 pm on August 13th, resulting in the deaths.
According to some news sources, the military has detained U Maung Maung who sells gold mining equipment and the owner of Shwe Tharaphu gold shop.
At around 11 am on August 13th, there was a clash between the local People’s Defense Force (PDF) and the military council army near new Paykone village near Banmauk, according to locals.
“Other side first fired shots. Then, the military fired heavy weapons,” an eyewitness said.
Major Kyaw Min Han, the military-appointed head of the Township was killed in the PDF’s shooting in Banmauk.
Following the incident, the military council has tightened entry and exit inspections in Banmauk.
The military council has issued a curfew from 6 am to 6 pm, the people said.
