The military council arrested a 37-year-old protest leader from Mamone Village of Hpakant Township and a 30-year-old MP from Hopin of Mogaung Township, at the 21st mile checkpoint at the exit of Myitmyina, according to locals.
On August 14th, the military council detained Mamone protest leader Ko Sai Maung and MP Ko Myo Kyaw when they went from Myitkyina to Hpakant, a man from Mamone village told the KNG.
“I got a phone call at around 10.30 am yesterday that Ko Sai Maung was arrested. I feel sorry. He was arrested along with MP Ko Myo Kyaw. The military council arrested them for the possession of the treasury bonds issued by the National Unity Government (NUG) and the photos linked to the People’s Defense Force (PDF) in the mobile phone of Ko Sai Maung,” a local who is a friend of Ko Sai Maung said.
“As far as I know, they are still at the interrogation camp. As the 21st mile checkpoint is adjacent to Myitkyina, they are taken to Myitkyina. I have not got any information about them,” he added.
Locals are worried about their safety as Ko Myo Kyaw and Ko Sai Maung are actively participating in the community welfare tasks.
A combined force of soldiers and police is carrying out tightened inspections at the 21st mile checkpoint in Myitkyina Township.
The public has warned that the politicians, activists and youths need to be cautious about it as there are the frequent arrests and the seizures of weapons.
